Welcome to Tilt: What We're Building and Why

Welcome. If you're reading this, you're one of the first people to see what we've been building — and we wanted the first real post on this blog to be a straightforward one: what Tilt actually is, and why we built it this way.

The problem we set out to solve

Most wellbeing tools ask you one question, in one form or another: how are you doing? And most of them expect a single answer — a mood rating, a score out of ten, a streak you're trying to keep alive. A single number can be a useful starting point, but on its own it rarely tells the whole story. You might be sleeping fine and still feel disconnected from the people around you. You might be smashing your goals at work and quietly running on empty everywhere else. One number alone won't show you that — you need to look closer to see the fuller picture.

We built Tilt around a different premise: that wellbeing isn't one thing, it's several — and the parts of it don't move together. Some weeks you're calm under pressure but feel stuck creatively. Other weeks you're making real progress on things that matter to you but haven't felt genuinely content in a while. None of that is a contradiction. It's just what real wellbeing actually looks like, once you stop trying to squeeze it into a single score.

The six domains

When you complete your profile in Tilt, you first get an overall wellbeing score for your baseline. This is just so you understand your starting point – this is not fixed and can change over time, depending on your life circumstances. And because it’s just a sum of your scores, it does not show you the variation that defines your specific profile at that point in time. To achieve this, Tilt also looks at wellbeing across six domains: Composure (how you handle pressure), Own-worth (how you value yourself, independent of achievement), Mastery (your sense of growth and competence), Positivity (genuine, not performative, positive emotion), Achievement (progress toward what matters to you), and Satisfaction (contentment with what's already true).

Once you get your full profile, you will be recommended wellbeing activities to do that week based on your six-domain profile. These suggested activities will target two domains at a time, and the type of activities suggested will be tailored to how you are coping that week – whether you are overwhelmed, or feeling stagnant, or motivated for growth. Weekly check-ins will then be triggered to ensure the recommended activities suit how you are feeling each time. Over time, you will be able to track changes in your profile, and gather insights into the types of things that may impact your wellbeing so you can notice your own trends and learn which types of activities are most beneficial for you.

The goal isn't to give you a perfect score, and it isn't to tell you that you need to fix everything at once. It's to help you see, honestly, which part of your wellbeing might actually need your attention right now — so the next thing you do is the right thing for where you actually are, not a generic piece of advice aimed at everyone.

Where we are right now

Right now we are in the early testing phase of the app, and will soon open up beta testing for early access users. Join our waitlist so that we can contact you if you are interested in participating in the beta testing phase.

We're early, and we're building this deliberately rather than rushing it out the door. That means some things will change as we learn from the people using it. If something doesn't quite work the way you'd expect, or you have thoughts on what's missing, we want to hear about it — when we do our beta testing, we may ask you to complete a brief survey to let us know what works best.

What to expect from this blog

Alongside product updates, this is where we'll share the research behind the six domains, practical ways to build wellbeing into everyday life, and — when we have them — real stories and reflections from the people we've spoken to along the way, including insights from our early customer research. If you want to follow along as we build this, join our Tilt community on the home page.

Thanks for being here at the start of it.
